Issues of air quality, transportation, green space and land use transcend political boundaries, yet typically are addressed only at the local community level.
Triangle Tomorrow believes the region can be world class only if communities rally around a common vision and plan.
Our members meet annually to identify those issues that call for broad regional solutions. Task forces and standing committees examine these issues and recommend strategic actions for change.
Triangle Tomorrow's projects, programs and initiatives focus on the follow four areas:
- Air Quality - The importance of improving our region's air quality can't be overstated. Currently we exceed federal standards for ground-level ozone. If we fail to correct this, our non-attainment status will have serious and long-term economic repercussions. For more information on this issue, read Ground-Level Ozone and the Triangle's Economy. Triangle Tomorrow manages the following programs that address air quality in our region:
- Land Use - We work to promote growth and development that are environmentally, socially and economically sustainable. Reality Check, a joint initiative of Triangle Tomorrow and the Triangle District Council of the Urban Land Institute, was completed in February 2009. The project addressed the reality of growth projected for our region by 2030. The implementation of the results or the Reality Check exercise and report summit is being led by the Reality Check Action Committee and staffed by Triangle Tomorrow. The Action Committee has developed a Quality Growth Initiative that will work on regional growth challenges and opportunities until 2012. For more information on this project, go to
- Regional Competitiveness - We work with RTRP to implement leadership and quality of life action steps for the regional competitiveness plan, "The Shape of Things To Come."
- Quality of Life Benchmarking - Triangle Tomorrow periodically undertakes projects that measure and report on non-economic factors that affect the region's quality of life and competitiveness, such as health, housing, schools and child safety.
